Explain why there is often conflict between “street cops” and “management cops.”
What will be an ideal response?
Although street cops and police officers work for the same agencies, they may find themselves with different goals or priorities. Street cops are generally interested with doing their job with minimal interference from supervisors. To this end, they seek to maximize their autonomy, and their allegiances and loyalties are to their fellow street cops. Management cops, on the other hand, are primarily concerned with meeting agency goals and objectives. They attempt to limit officer autonomy and are more concerned with public perception of how the department operates.
