What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Solomon Asch’s experiment showed matching the lines of equal length, accomplices chose clearly wrong line, subject was one of last to answer. In over 50% of the experiments, one third of the subjects gave the same wrong answer as that put forth by Asch’s accomplices. Demonstrates how strong conformity and peer pressure in a group setting are. Stanley Milgram’s research: participants told to administer “shocks” by a “scientist” to an unseen learner being tested on memorization. More than half of the participants in the study obeyed the command to keep going despite cries of pain and help. Demonstrates how ordinary people will conform to orders given by someone in a position of power or authority, even if those orders have terrible consequences for others.
