What is a real-time application (RTA)?

What will be an ideal response?

Real-time applications (RTAs), in the current context, are any applications that must function within an immediate time frame on a continual basis, with little or no latency (delay). Whether a service can be defined as RTA depends on the maximum amount of time an application task requires to be executed on a particular hardware platform. This is referred to as worst-case execution time (WCET).
Voice over IP (VoIP), which uses IP to support voice communication, is one type of RTA.
