The term efficient can be a vague term. Explain the difference between metabolically efficient and storage-efficient, and give examples
Metabolically efficient is defined as being able to produce more ATP per amount of oxygen. Carbohydrate, which requires less or no oxygen to be metabolized, is a more metabolically efficient fuel than fats. Storage-efficient is defined as the amount of energy stored per quantity of substrate. Fat is more storage-efficiently than carbohydrate, in part due to the fact that fat is stored in its pure form without additional water.
