In what way did the Patent Cooperation Treaty change the international patent application process and make it more efficient for applicants?
What will be an ideal response?
Until enactment of the PCT, applicants had to file separate applications in each country in which they desired protection. For an inventor who wished to market his or her invention on a global basis, this process was time-consuming and expensive in the extreme. The PCT responds to these concerns by providing a centralized way of filing, searching, and examining patent applications in several countries simultaneously.
