What do we mean by data cleaning? Discuss the two principles discussed in Chapter 9 related to data cleaning.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: The two principles are (1) group all items that are classified under the same category in their designated place and (2) remove unnecessary items like dust, dirt, debris, and other non-pleasantries. These same principles are applied to our collected data. We are hoping to place the results in various categories where they belong and remove or fix any information that has the potential to intrude into the study or our analysis. These steps are necessary for the analysis. Otherwise, we would be left with a lot of information but little understanding of its content.
