Compare and contrast complementing and accenting nonverbal communication
What will be an ideal response?
Accenting relates to emphasizing the spoken word and adds meaning to verbal
communication. Similar to accenting, complementing functions to add meaning to
verbal communication. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish nonverbal behaviors that
accent verbal communication and nonverbal behaviors that complement the spoken
word. However, we usually have less control of complementing nonverbal behaviors
(such as crying and blushing) than we have of accenting nonverbal behaviors.
