Describe the action of white blood cells that act as phagocytes
What will be an ideal response?
The term phagocyte means "eating cell." These white blood cells are ameboid in their movement, and engulf bacteria, other foreign cells, or debris. They are then enclosed in a vesicle in the phagocyte. This vesicle then fuses with a lysosome, which contains powerful enzymes, which kill the engulfed cell, and recycle the macromolecules.
