What is bipolar disorder?


Bipolar disorder is a type of major depression which alternates between the extreme highs of mania and severe lows (hypomania). It tends to be familial and may be caused by environmental factors.
Severe mania may include risky behaviors, suicidal thoughts, and psychotic symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, and disorganized thinking.
