With powerful computers and software packages readily available, do you think obtaining analytical solutions to engineering problems will eventually disappear from engineering curricula?

What will be an ideal response?

Analytical solutions provide insight to the problems, and allows us to observe the degree of dependence of solutions on certain parameters. They also enable us to obtain quick solution, and to verify numerical codes. Therefore, analytical solutions are not likely to disappear from engineering curricula.

Answer the following statement(s) true (T) or false (F)

1. The dominant heat loss from pools is caused by evaporation of water. 2. An advantage of snow and ice melting systems (also know as SIM systems) is the ability to use almost any fuel or heat source to provide the energy needed to operate the SIM system. 3. One way of initiating several short on/off cycles is by adding thermal mass to the distribution system using an insulated buffer tank. 4. Buffer tanks are always needed when the system contains several small individually controlled loads that have low thermal mass. 5. A minitube distribution system designed to take advantage of the large temperature difference available between hot boiler water and the relatively cool water returning from a heated slab-on-grade floor.
