List some of the common preventative maintenance tasks for hydraulic systems.
What will be an ideal response?
Hydraulic systems require periodic monitoring of the fluid for contaminants
such as dirt, water, etc., as well as periodic replacement of the oil, commonly at
the one-year mark. Periodic testing of the oil for the proper consistency and
chemical makeup is another oil related PM task. Cursory checks for leaks are a
daily task where pulling all the covers and really looking deep into the system
may be on semiannual or annual list. You will need to change out the filter for
the system anytime it shows a clogged condition or periodically, again typically at
the year mark. If your system uses accumulators you might have to check the
gas charge depending on the type. Some of the valves may require removal and
cleaning that involves taking the valve apart and cleaning various components.
Checking hoses for leaks and signs of wear is another common PM task for
hydraulic systems.
