A man who falls in love instantly with someone he has just met, and then is in the depths of despair because she does not feel as intensely as he does, is demonstrating this type of love. Agape is a compassionate, egoless, self-giving love. The woman who dedicates her life to fostering special needs children, even at great emotional cost to herself, is an example of this type of love.
