Consider the energy content of the different fossil fuels and their EROI. Discuss why it will be difficult to shift the global energy system away from these resources.

What will be an ideal response?

Very simply, the high energy content of fossil fuels, as well as the infrastructure that has evolved over time to process and extract them, creates a very high energy returned on energy invested. We get much more energy from our time and effort from fossil fuels than from renewables.
