Cardiovascular research has been instrumental in identifying the major risk factors of cardiovascular disease but lifestyle changes have been slow to follow. A major focus of ongoing efforts in the prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke is on public education. American people are now being educated on the nutritional contents of foods. The Go Red for Women Program of the American Heart Association is focusing on public recognition of the different symptoms experienced by women with cardiovascular disease to effect stabilization of the rates of disease in women. The Framingham study is ongoing and now looking more at the genetic component of heart disease and stroke.
