Art is often destroyed following changes of regime or political ideology. Examples of this can be seen in the 2003, as Iraqi citizens destroyed imaged of deposed president Saddam Hussein. Similarly, in the mid-20th century, Germany rushed to remove portraits of Adolf Hitler, along with other Nazi symbols. Destroying art also occurs for religious reasons as religious groups destroy images (iconoclasm) that offend their particular belief system.
