The human body shivers to warm up and perspires to cool down. Is this an example of a bang-bang or a proportional control system? Explain your answer.

What will be an ideal response?

A proportional controller adjusts the system incrementally. If a person gets cold, he or she shivers. The colder the person gets, the more shivering. The shivering is in proportion to how cold the person is. Likewise, if a person is warm, he or she perspires. The perspiration evaporates, cooling down the person. The warmer it is, the more perspiration, the more evaporation, and the more cooling down. The perspiration is in proportion to how warm the person gets.
