Identify the three most common forms of propositional theoretical integration and briefly describe each.
What will be an ideal response?
End-to-end theories are integrated theories for which one of the theories is believed to come before the other/s in terms of temporal ordering (e.g., weak social bonds ?negative peer associations ? crime). As the name suggests, side-by-side integrated theories are those for which the explanations more or less parallel each other. These theories can be applied to both planned and impulsive crimes (e.g., low self-control theory may parallel rational choice theory, with the outcomes differing depending on self-control being high or low). Another combination of theories is referred to as up-and-down integrated theories, which is more of the traditional way to combine theories. Of the two prevalent forms, theory reduction is more common than theory synthesis.
