Explain the Jewish beliefs about life after death.

World religions address questions about afterlife, because clarity on the issues of life after death means a great deal to how they think about life before death. However, the Tanak does not say much on this subject, and Judaism as a whole today does not dwell on it. This may seem surprising to non-Jews, because the sacred texts of Christianity and Islam—both of which have their foundations in Judaism—speak often about life after death. But with Judaism's focus on actions more than on beliefs, it is actually to be expected that it not speculate about the world to come.
