A newborn baby is diagnosed with HIV after birth. How might this have happened?

What will be an ideal response?

HIV can be passed from mother to child right before or during childbirth (though cesarean delivery can sometimes reduce the risk of transmission) and also through breast milk. Though breast milk has a lower concentration of HIV as compared to blood, semen, and vaginal fluid, and therefore doesn’t pose as large of a threat to adults, it is still a primary mode of transmission to infants.
