What are terranes, and what information do they provide? What will be an ideal response?
Terranes are small lithospheric blocks that originated elsewhere. They differ from
surrounding rock in terms of fossils, rock type, age, structural trends and paleomagnetic
properties. Geologists think they were carried great distances until they collided with other
terranes or continents.
