?Define homeostasis and explain its relationship to the stress response.
What will be an ideal response?
Scientists use the term homeostasis to define the physiological and emotional limits at which the body functions efficiently and comfortably in a state of balance. Stress disturbs homeostasis by creating a state of imbalance. When something happens in our surroundings-something equivalent to a big bear charging out of the forest-this perception of danger automatically initiates the fight-or-flight response. Once we sense no more danger, the functions in the body that activate the stress response are turned off and we gradually return to normal (homeostasis).?
