? Construct a large number of items that appear on face validity to measure the concept.
? Pretest the instrument by administering it to a sample of people.
? Any item with greater than 80 percent agreement or disagreement should be discarded from the analysis and final scale.
? Order respondents from highest score (most responding “yes” to each item) to lowest score (fewest “yes” responses).
? Also order items from left to right from most favorable to least favorable responses.
? After discarding those items that fail to discriminate between high and low scorers, calculate the coefficient of reproducibility where errors are defined as those responses that are out of the predictable pattern.
? If the coefficient of reproducibility equals .90 or higher, then scalability or unidimensionality is assumed.
? The respondent’s final score is calculated by simply summing the number of favorable items.
