Decoders may at first appear to be quite difficult to understand but they are really quite simple. You need only remember:

A) decoding is totally random and completely accurate so the technician need not be concerned with how decoding is accomplished.
B) the inputs are always octal codes, therefore the output replicates the input.
C) decoding is simply a procedure where each output line will be activated for only one of the possible combinations of inputs.
D) decoding is a complex operation that does not follow a set pattern. Consequently, the manufacturer's data sheet must be consulted for each possible input code group.
