Explain what Type B and Type C misfires are and what the PCM does to react to these types of misfires.
What will be an ideal response?
A Type B Misfire is one that could cause the emissions to rise above 1.5 times the designed standard certified by the FTP, and the misfire monitor will cause the MIL to be illuminated steady but not to flash. A Type C Misfire is one that could cause an inspection/maintenance (I/M) failure but will not damage the catalyst or cause emissions to exceed 1.5 times the FTP.
