Define problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping and give an example of each one.

What will be an ideal response?

Problem-focused coping focuses on changing the situation by acting on the environment. Speaking to one's boss about moving to a different schedule when one is struggling with staying awake during a third-shift job is an example. Emotion-focused coping focuses on either changing the meaning of the event or changing one's reaction to it. For example, if one fails to get a promotion at work, one can move from seeing it as a failure to a sign that one needs to look for opportunities for growth by reentering the job market as an active job seeker.
