Concerning the preferred personality value, what does it mean to "do" and what does it mean to "be"? Give a brief example of "being" and "doing."
What will be an ideal response?
The definition of the value includes terms that are not clearly defined (doing and being), thus this question asks students to define the orientations within the value.
"Doing" means that some people value working hard to achieve material gain, even if it means sacrificing time with family and friends. An example might relate to a person who is so concerned with job performance or achieving some goal (like winning a race) that he/she miss out on a family reunion, or a camping trip with friends.
"Being" means that some people value experiencing life and the people around them fully and "working to live" rather than "living to work." An example might illustrate how and individual choosing to spend time with important one's in his/her life rather than working, such as when a father chooses to leave work early to attend a child's soccer game.
