Explain why Mercury, Venus, and Mars lack plate tectonics. What will be an ideal response?

Because Mercury is so small, it cooled too rapidly for plate tectonics to begin.
Venus is most likely to have plate tectonics if not for the relatively thick lithosphere.
Additionally, due to a runaway greenhouse effect, Venus has little, if any, water available to
“soften” the rocks of the lithosphere. Venus could have had plate tectonics in the past.
Mars also has evidence of past tectonic activity, but no indication of current activity. Like
Mercury, Mars likely cooled too quickly to maintain any activity.
