How has the Patriot Act increased immigration enforcement issues?


Under the Patriot Act, INS was split into three parts, all of which are in bureaus under the Department of Homeland Security. Under the Act, security clearances and background checks have been toughened, there is better coordination between immigration-related government agencies, and there is increased governmental ability to track foreign nationals in the United States. These agencies under DHS also have programs for checking employers' records for verification of citizenship and documentation to work in the United States.
