You just accepted a job teaching in a primary school. In the interview, the principal told you she wants to see the children develop their sense of purpose, competency, and relevancy in the community. How would you fulfill the principal’s wishes?

What will be an ideal response?

I would try to give the children as much autonomy as possible in order to build their esteem and competency. I would let groups of students decide on classroom rules and projects they wanted to complete. I would not give them total control, because I would have to agree that their ideas are appropriate and safe, but I would stay out of it as much as possible or give them hints to make their ideas more feasible. In my community, Tim’s Place is a free meal provider. I would encourage the children to find a way, either by raising money or planting a school garden, to obtain food to donate to Tim’s Place. This would give the students a sense of purpose and importance in our local community.
