What is nonsampling error and why is it a problem in research?
What will be an ideal response?
Nonsampling error refers to the omission of participants from research in such a way that the sample used in the research is nonrepresentative of the population. It occurs when sampling systematically neglects some component of the population. This error can occur because it may be easier to study some segment of the population (e.g., hospitalized schizophrenics) than others (e.g., homeless, noninstitutionalized schizophrenics). The results of such research may not generalize beyond the subgroup studied. In fact, we may not even know that some subgroups are left out.
