Climate change causes the displacement of people, economic loses, and environmental degradation, and contributes to violence and conflict around the globe. Students should illustrate their understanding by providing examples from the text. Students might discuss food shortages, displacement after natural disasters/extreme weather, and/or the relationship to poverty as examples. Students should discuss how climate change impacts everyone as it may “tip the scale”, particularly in already vulnerable regions, and cause terrorism, uprisings, migration, etc. In short, climate change contributes to social unrest which in turn has a ripple effect across the world.
