Discuss and provide examples of how American values are ethnocentric.

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: Define values and ethnocentrism. People use values to determine what is important in life. Ethnocentrism is when the cultural standards of one culture are used to judge the fitness of other cultures. Ethnorelativism, or multiculturalism, recognizes that a culture is one valid view among many valid views. The key here is how differences are regarded. Ethnocentrism sees differences in a hierarchy and multiculturalism sees differences as potential benefit to us all. American exceptionalism and the American dream are terms related to this topic.
