What are relays and contactors?
What will be an ideal response?
The term relay refers to a magnetically operated switch that contains small or auxiliary contacts. Auxiliary contacts are used as part of the control circuit and are not intended to connect a load to the line. Contactors contain large load contacts that are intended to handle large amounts of current. Load contacts are used to connect loads such as motors or other high-current devices to the power line. Contactors may or may not also contain auxiliary contacts. Motor starters are contactors that are equipped with overload protection for a motor. Combination starters contain the fused disconnect or circuit breaker, control transformer, and motor starter in one enclosure.
