Describe and discuss the carbonate deposits expected in different parts of an organic reef environment. Fill in the blank(s) with the appropriate word(s)

The description and discussion should distinguish between lagoonal deposits that occur in
shallow waters between organic reefs and mainland, and reef breccias that occur on the
ocean-ward side of large organic reefs. Typically, lagoonal deposits are protected from wave
action and often contain micrite, small reef patches, and algal matter (stromatolites). Oceanward
deposits are subject to high-energy processes and may be contain reef, banks, or
skeletal particles, or an accumulation of spherical carbonate grains (ooids). The structure of
organic reefs includes a variety of reef building organisms, including corals.
