The term performing object is replacing the term puppet to describe a wide range of inanimate objects found in theatrical performance and on film, all manipulated either directly by a performer or through a variety of technological means. Performing objects range along a continuum that begins with the actor in costume and moves to the most technologically sophisticated computerized creatures.
