Describe the term “process in control.”

What will be an ideal response?

In any process that is operating within design specifications a natural pattern of variation exist. Identical processes will have unique characteristics that when carefully studied will still show signs of natural variation. This natural pattern of variation is illustrated in Figure 6-1. In theexample below about 40% (6 points) of the points fall between one plus or minus one standard deviation. On the same example about 47% (7 points) of the plotted points fall inside the two standard deviations and only 13% (2 points) of the plotted points fall in the third standard deviation. The variation in this example the 15 plotted points move back and forth across the target specifications. This natural pattern forms it’s own frequency distribution. Figure 6-1 illustrates how data points can be plotted into a normal curve.
