Discuss the assumptions associated with the within-subjects ANOVA.

What will be an ideal response?

The first two test assumptions for the within-subjects ANOVA are the same as those for the between-subjects ANOVA.
(1) The population of difference scores must be a normal distribution.
(2) The scores from different participants within each sample must be independent.
However, the third assumption for the within-subjects ANOVA is a new assumption known as the sphericity assumption. This assumption is that pairs of scores in the population for the same individuals have similar variability. The new assumption is stated as:
(3) Sphericity--in the population of scores, the differences between pairs of scores from the same individuals are equal.
