Some health professionals believe it is an acceptable response to a person’s aging/illness/financial difficulties, symptoms may not be obvious or consistent with symptoms of younger people, changes in a person’s life situation and expectation of person slowing down may contribute to missing signs of depression. Person may deny treatment or find ways to self-medicate (e.g., alcohol).
