Explain the inevitable discovery doctrine, and give an example.

What will be an ideal response?

The inevitable discovery doctrine is an exception to the fruit of the poisonous tree doctrine that allows a prosecutor to admit evidence that would otherwise be inadmissible because of an illegal search. Illegally obtained evidence is admissible if the prosecution can show that the evidence would have been inevitably discovered, even in the absence of the police illegality.

For example, the police violated an individual's Sixth Amendment right to counsel. As a result, the defendant made incriminating statements and led the police to the body of a murder victim. At the same time, search teams were looking for the body and were within a few miles of its location.
