Advergames are paid for on a project basis by advertisers. While the end goal is to sell to Internet users, the developer does not normally receive a cut from clicks or social media shares. The sole goal of an adver¬game is to promote a brand by making a product playable. School-related distribution for serious games is on the rise, and a number of game-based learning web sites now provide materials that tie directly into elementary school level curricula. Children may be provided with accounts through their teachers. Games designed for internal use only are often a bit rougher in look and feel than games released to the public. These games are only rarely available online; instead, they come pre-installed on company computers or distributed to employees via disc technology or flash drives. In many cases, these games can only be accessed at corporate training center—where gameplay can be monitored and players observed. These games are often followed up with written or online tests—and the scores are used to determine how well or poorly the game works to train/educate the employee. Medical games designed for therapy or rehabilitation can often only be obtained through a prescription—or they can only be utilized in a setting where a practitioner is present.
