There are several ways in which a learning environment can be structured so as to minimize problem behaviors within the classroom. Student responses may vary, but one such strategy is to provide children opportunities to make choices throughout their school day. When children feel as though they have a say in their educational activities, they are more likely to participate and less likely to exhibit problem behaviors. Another possible strategy is to ensure that all materials are organized and in a good working order. My organizing materials, teachers can eliminate any down time in the classroom associated with finding materials. Unstructured time during the school day is when the most problem behaviors occur. Other strategies that can be used to structure the environment are making sure that all areas within the classroom can be seen by the teacher and making sure that students are given plenty of opportunities to respond throughout the school day. When students feel as though they are engaged in classroom activities and discussions, they are less likely to exhibit problem behaviors.
