In 17th century New England, the modern boundaries between public and private and church and state would have made little sense. In what ways did this violate the principles that later became the founding ideology of the American constitution?

What will be an ideal response?

America was largely founded on the freedom of religion and not having religion dictate individual freedom. Communities were so small and interdependent on all the members that separation naturally did not exist. It is interesting to view how this contradicts itself to some degree and the large divide that exist today over separation of church and state.
