Answer: Some anticoagulant drugs inhibit the action of clotting factors in the blood, or they inhibit the formation of those clotting factors in the liver. Other anticoagulant drugs prevent platelets from adhering to the site of injury or prevent platelets from clumping together to begin the formation of a clot. Still other anticoagulant drugs decrease the viscosity (thickness) of the blood and increase red blood cell flexibility to promote the flow of blood.
