Latitude is the angular distance north or south of the equator. Lines of latitude are called parallels and run east-west. Latitude can range from 90° North to 90° South. Longitude is the angular distance east or west of the prime meridian. Lines of longitude are called meridians. They diverge at the equator and converge at the poles. Longitude can range from 0° to 180°.
