Identify two disadvantages of the fragmentation of American government.

What will be an ideal response?

Disadvantages include the following: It is sometimes difficult to accomplish anything, and elected politicians with policy ideas find themselves thwarted by the large number of decision points in the policymaking system. Programs may cancel each other out as a result of separate policy fiefdoms. The apparent inability or unwillingness of policymakers to choose among options means that policies will be incoherent and the process continues seemingly without any closure. It also means that because potential conflicts are resolved by offering every interest in society some support from the public sector, taxes and expenditures are higher than they might otherwise be.
