Describe the pathophysiology of appendicitis
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: Obstruction with fecal matter and infections cause the appendix to become swollen, red, and covered with an inflammatory exudate. Because the swelling interferes with circulation to the appendix, it is possible for gangrene to develop. The appendix then becomes green and black. The wall of the appendix can become thin and rupture, spilling fecal material into the peritoneal cavity, causing peritonitis.
