How do rod heaters work, and why are they used?
What will be an ideal response?
Rod heaters are used to heat the small end of the connecting rod and provide easy assembly of the rod to the piston without having to use a press to install the piston pin. Heat expands the connecting rod to a larger diameter so the pin will drop right in. After cooling, the pin is held in place. Pressing cold can damage the piston.
