Contraband can also consist of gambling, institutional privileges, special food and canteen services, and prostitution. There are a number of ways that contraband gets into prison. Contraband can be brought in by visitors. Contraband may be introduced by corrupt staff. Contraband can be made by prisoners. Inmates can also steal contraband from other areas of the prison and use the items for illegal purposes.
