What will be an ideal response?
The goal of use of force is to use force only when necessary and in forms that are appropriate to the situation. Nonetheless, there are four ways in which use of force can be controlled. The first is by adopting organizational policies and rules that make it clear, how and when force should be used. Second, officers should be trained to use de-escalation techniques as a way to reduce the frequency of force. Third, supervisors and administrators should monitor officer behavior through the use of early intervention systems. These are designed to identify officers who may be at risk and taking the necessary steps to correct their actions or behaviors. Fourth, supervisors should carefully consider officer shift and patrol assignments as a way to mitigate use of force.
