Technically speaking, why is ragtime difficult for the average pianist to perform?

What will be an ideal response?

One of the greatest difficulties in performing a rag is that a pianist's hands are required to do two very different tasks. Rags usually feature a highly repetitive syncopated rhythm in the right hand, and alternative rhythms in the left hand. Syncopation in itself can be very difficult to perform for the musical average, as accented notes are falling "off" of the beat rather than on the beat. Combining an already difficult syncopated rhythm with a separate rhythm in another hand makes the rag nearly impossible for average pianists.
